Letter: How did parents vote on tax?

People upset about school closures are complaining that they did not receive enough information about the ramifications of voting down the referendum on a sales tax increase. As I look at some of their quotes, it seems obvious that there are at least a few of these outraged individuals who voted "no" on the half-percent increase. FLORIDA TODAY printed a lengthy list from Superintendent Binggeli outlining the numerous informational meetings the District had held to explain the possible effects of a "no" vote, including school closures. What is not known is whether or not any of the outraged parents attended any of these forums, asked questions, and campaigned for the passage of the referendum. Voters need to educate themselves, especially on issues that are so important to them. Had more people worked harder to pass the tax increase, we might not be looking at the unfortunate closures that are now such a real possibility.
