Letter: Should Congress regulate overpowered vehicles?

I recently exited a local gun shop and spied a gorgeous canary yellow Corvette Z06 parked nearby. As any red-blooded male is compelled, I sauntered over to admire this iconic American Dream machine. A glance inside revealed a space-age interior and a speedometer with an arc from zero to 205 mph. Who on Earth would possibly need to own such a beast? Was the proud owner properly vetted for psychological quirks, mental polarity and past history of violating speed laws to operate a vehicle capable of muzzle velocity in excess of twice the legal interstate speed limit? Did the driver receive adequate counseling and training in safety and handling to control such an overpowered mechanical marvel, or is a simple driver's license adequate? Is it the driver, the car or speed that kills? Shouldn't Congress have a say-so in regulating these immense capabilities to only racetracks, police and military use, or does the right of the people to keep and bear machines of horrendous speed shall not be infringed apply? After securing my purchased box of .223 full-metal jacket ammo in the trunk of my Camry, I buckled up, glanced at my conservative speedometer registering to a paltry 140 mph and went smugly on my way wondering where it will all end.
