Letter: EEL program lacks long-term planning

In regard to the recent FLORIDA TODAY article, "No money for EEL," thank you to Clerk of Court Scott Ellis. At last some common sense from someone in public office. He sees through this phony program. The EEL (Environmentally Endangered Lands) program claims it didn't see the housing collapse coming. It did not plan for the long term. Shame on them. The uninformed taxpayer gave money to the wrong people. Now we have 24,000 acres off the tax rolls. Much of that land couldn't be built on anyway. Much of it wouldn't pass an environmental impact study allowing building. In 2009, EEL spent $2 million for 188 acres in Malabar to help the scrub jays. Who are they to think they can control Mother Nature? Mother Nature overcomes many things, despite human interference. This is not my first time around the block. I saw the same kind of land deals in other states. Taxpayers of Brevard County, be informed! Don't vote yes only because you see the word environment. Find out the details.
